One of the signs of the last days is that knowledge (good/bad) shall increase and as a result, deception shall also increase. New information is being released into the world at an alarming and very fast rate. If we are not careful, we will not be able to keep up with it. This is why we need God’s wisdom daily to decipher and differentiate right from wrong and good from evil. We must know what to pay attention to and what not to even look at at all.
I don’t have to tell you that we live in an ever-changing world that needs us to constantly be in the known all the time. We must be up-to-date if we don’t want to be out-of-date. What works perfectly well yesterday may become obsolete today even before we get around to it. That is why we update things every time so that our system can keep up with those changes to function at its best. If we are not keeping up with the changes around us, we will become frustrated, irrelevant, and get stuck .
What works yesterday may require us to know something different if we want to make it work today or continue to make it tomorrow.
Having said that, we need wisdom for our everyday interactions. Before God created the earth, He had wisdom available to Him: “the Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old’ (Pro 8: 22). The truth is that the wisdom required to establish a thing, start a project, or build a house does not equal the wisdom that is needed to maintain it or live in the house. This is why wisdom remains with God: “then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; and I was daily His delight” (Pro 8: 30). If we too want to live successfully in this earth that God has made, we will need to make sure that we interact with wisdom daily.
So, wisdom says: “blessed the man, blessed the woman, who listens to me, awake and ready for me each morning, alert and responsive as I start my day’s work” (Pro 8: 34, the Message).
No wonder, Jesus increased in wisdom. He grew in wisdom. He advanced in wisdom every day just as He grew in stature. That means as He grew physically and He also grew in wisdom that commensurate with His stature. What He did every day matches up with God’s wisdom that was available for that day.
Unfortunately, some of us are not interacting with wisdom on a daily basis which is why we are inconsistent with making sound decisions. That is why we are kind of epileptic with the way we live. That is why there is no continuity in our dealings. That is why we fall short. That is why we worry and struggle with life. That is why we are not measuring up. That is why we are tired unnecessarily. That is why we are confused because we don’t spend time with the One who always knows what to do in different situations or circumstances He finds Himself. Remember, because we live in a changing world, we must watch daily at the post of wisdom. We must ask for wisdom. We must be responsive to wisdom. We must be attuned to wisdom. We must engage wisdom. We must embrace wisdom.
If Jesus increased in wisdom, we too must develop a hunger for it. We must be determined to increase in wisdom as well. We cannot avoid to diminish in wisdom as we grow in age. God expect that we must be intentional to wise up as we grow up because it is possible to increase in years but not in wisdom that matches that biological and chronological growth. Remember age is not equal to wisdom:
"This is what Elihu, son of Barakel the Buzite, said:
“I’m a young man and you are all old and experienced.
That’s why I kept quiet and held back from joining the discussion.
I kept thinking, ‘Experience will tell.
The longer you live, the wiser you become.’
But I see I was wrong—it’s God’s Spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty One, that makes wise human insight possible.
The experts have no corner on wisdom; getting old doesn’t guarantee good sense" (Job 32: 7-9, the Message).
We cannot allow what happened yesterday to be a deterrent to what can and should happen today. We must learn to put a closure to the chapter at the end of each day to open a new chapter at the beginning of a new day. We must discard the old to embrace the new. Even God told us to forget the former things because He is doing something new. We must let go of yesterday if we want to experience today. We must evaluate and abandon what does not work or no longer serves us to learn something new today.
Just as God’s mercies are new every morning, every new day requires a new perspective, a new approach, and a new level of wisdom if we want to undertake anything worthwhile or keep up with the changes that are happening around us every day.
Prayer: Lord, I wait for the release of your wisdom today as I watch at your gate, I pray that you will fill me with the spirit of wisdom commensurate to today in Jesus’ name. Amen!
