Wisdom is the ability to do something as you should or use something for its intended purpose. Every day you live gives you the opportunity to be wiser. Moses, the man of God prayed in Psalm 90: 12 that God should “teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us to spend them as we should” (TLB).
We must understand that we don’t have forever to live. Our goal is not only to count each day but also to make it count. We must ensure that we use each day for what it is meant—to do God’s will. Because every day is God-made. Just as God made us, He also made each day for us and He knows why He made each day and to what end. Our prayer should be that God will help us to use each moment of each day for what it is meant.
There are 24 hours in a day—1,440 minutes and 86,400 seconds. Each second is made of moments. The thing is, no two moments are the same. Each one is unique. Each one is different. Each one is loaded. So, every day is unique. Even as we do our routines, we must allow variations so that we can get the best out of it. Each moment can be mismanaged or spent on the wrong activity. Each one also can be used for its intended purpose.
So, set the direction for your day. Plan how you want it to unfold. Tell your time where you want it to go. Decide on what you want to spend it on at the beginning of each day. Those who have a plan for their time, usually work hard to protect it. Otherwise, someone else will hijack it and tell you what they want you to spend it on. Wisdom is the ability to direct, guide, lead, or instruct your time. A fool doesn’t care much about how they use their time. Don’t be one.
Our level of wisdom is, therefore, a reflection of how we use each day and what we use it for. If we don’t pay attention to each moment of the day, we will not be intentional about it and if we are not intentional, we will waste it. And if we waste it, we cannot get the best out of it, make the most of it, or put it to maximum use.
The apostle Paul asked us to make the most of every opportunity. This can only be possible when we understand what God wants to use each day to accomplish in us and through us.
As we make each day count, we will be able to do the right thing at the right time and make the most of every moment. This is also how we can redeem the time or buy it back. It is about time we started paying attention to what we are doing with out time and what we are using it for.
As we apply our hearts to wisdom, we will learn the place of accountability. We must continually ask ourselves whether we are using the time for what God allocated or assigned it for. We must see to it that we are moving in the direction of our destiny. We must ensure that we are using our time to develop our relationship with God so that we can know Him better, know ourselves, develop and improve our skills, abilities and talents, build meaningful connections, and not gossip, backbite, or put others down. We must not use our time to snuff out the fire in others. We must not use our time to compare ourselves to others. We must not use it on frivolous activities. We must not use it on things that have no future. Rather, we should use it to do things that will enhance our well-being.
The task is, as we walk in the path of destiny, we should not only count our days but also make them count.
Prayer: Lord, please help me to make my days count. Help me to apply my heart to wisdom in Jesus’ name. Amen!
