Day 17: The Expression of Wisdom

I cannot overemphasis this: wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get it. To get it, you must begin with the fear of God. If you don’t get wisdom you don’t have anything because there is nothing you have that could be compared to it.

It is one thing to get wisdom but another thing to properly express it. One of the ways you can express wisdom is in what you say. What you say is a reflection of how wise you are. A fool refuses to take control of their words (Pro 29: 11).

Wisdom is required to say the right things and say things right. So, it is not necessarily what you say but how you say it, when you say it, where you say and to whom you say it. Some of us have no filter especially whenever we are excited. If you are not careful, your mouth can trap you. Remember this: “He who guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from distress” (Pro 21: 23).

Some people have talked themselves into problems. The undoing of many people today is in how they are using their mouths (Pro 18: 21).

Maybe the reason people are not listening to you is because you don’t have anything beneficial to say to them. They cannot find wisdom in your words. We read in Pro 14: 7 “the words of the wise are like weapons of knowledge. If you need wise counsel, stay away from the fool” (TPT). Your goal is to ensure that “your conversation be gracious as well as sensible, for then you will have the right answer for everyone” (Col 4: 6, TLB). The reason is that: “Everyone enjoys giving great advice. But how delightful it is to say the right thing at the right time!” (Pro 15: 23, TPT). The people who listened to Jesus “..marveled at the gracious words that came from His lips” (Lk 4: 22).

Here is the wisdom of God from the apostle Paul: Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it” (Eph 4: 29, AMPC).

Prayer: Lord, let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight in Jesus’ name, amen!
