Day 18: Expression of Wisdom (2)

Yesterday, we looked at one way through which people usually express their wisdom. We said that we can know a wise people by their words, not by their looks but what comes out of their word when they speak. A wise person will speak intelligently. A wise person also knows when to speak and when to be quiet. A wise person knows that too many words can lead to sin. Remember: “too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut” Pro 10: 19, NLT). The wise measure their words. They understand that their words carry weight.

Please remember this from Proverbs 17: 27-28

"Can you bridle your tongue when your heart is under pressure? That’s how you show that you are wise. An understanding heart keeps you cool, calm, and collected, no matter what you’re facing. When even a fool bites his tongue he’s considered wise. So shut your mouth when you are provoked— it will make you look smart" (TPT).

Today, we want to look at another way people usually express their wisdom. Many people usually express their wisdom through what they do. A wise person does small things in the most excellent way possible. Many people are waiting for the big bang before they give their best. They have forgotten that big moments rarely come with introduction but through integration. Big moments will come because you have been faithfully doing the right things all along.

You must understand that being faithful in small things is a gateway to doing big things in the kingdom of God. Jesus said: “The one who faithfully manages the little he has been given will be promoted and trusted with greater responsibilities. But those who cheat with the little they have been given will not be considered trustworthy to receive more” (Lk 16: 10, TPT).

Jesus knew and practiced this principle that the people around Him proclaimed: “And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well” (Lk 7: 37). In other words, He did everything the way it ought to be done. He did not leave anything out of it. He did the right thing at the right time in the right way with the right attitude and for the right reason. He did everything outstandingly.

Remember, after God finished creating the earth (which He did through His wisdom), the Bible said it was very good (Gen 1: 31). It is not necessarily what you are doing but how and how well you are doing it.

We are encouraged to do everything heartily as unto the Lord. In other words, we are to put our heart and soul into it or put our very best effort into it (Col 3: 23, TPT). We are to do all things without murmuring or complaints (Phil 2: 14). We are to do everything with gladness (Ps 100: 2). We are to do everything in the name of the Lord (Col 3: 17), for His glory (1Cor 10: 31), with goodwill, and without eyeservice (Eph 6: 6, Col 3: 22). Every day gives us the opportunity to do our best work. This is where our creativity will be revealed. We cannot afford to do things just anyhow.

We must, therefore, be systematic, strategic, thoughtful, committed, intentional, conscientious, meticulous, consistent, and focused in everything we are doing. We must be engaged in meaningful work. We cannot afford to do things halfheartedly, inconsistently, or carelessly.

I wonder how well you are doing whatever you are doing. I wonder if you think what you are doing is worthwhile. I wonder if you are giving your all and doing your best or just passing time.

Prayer: Lord, help me to do all things well in Jesus’ name. Amen!
