Day 3: Christ, the Wisdom of God

In our devotion yesterday, we worked on the definition of wisdom. Please click here to read it. Today, I quickly want to reflect on a powerful revelation from the word of God that will shape our understanding as God’s people and empower us to live as wise people. When we become born again, Jesus takes residence in us and becomes our everything. We should be known for God’s wisdom at work in and through us.

The Bible describes Jesus as the “exact representation of God” (Heb 1: 3, NIV). The Passion Translation refers to Him as: “the exact expression of God’s true nature—his mirror image!” In other words, Jesus is God’s selfie according to pastor and author Tony Evans. He “perfectly mirrors God, and is stamped with God’s nature” (the Message). The Bible says God is pleased to have His fullness dwell in Him.

"...For it pleased the Father for all the fullness [of deity—the sum total of His essence, all His perfection, powers, and attributes] to dwell [permanently] in Him (the Son)" (Col 1: 19, AMPC).

In other words, everything God is is in Christ. Christ embodies God. In this Christ also dwells:

"all the treasures of [divine] wisdom (comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God) and [all the riches of spiritual] knowledge and enlightenment are stored up and lie hidden" (Col 2: 3, AMPC)

All untapped treasures of wisdom and knowledge reside in Christ. In Christ, “there is all of God in a human body” (Col 2: 9, TLB). The Message Bible puts it this way:

"Everything of God gets expressed in him, so you can see and hear him clearly. And when you come to him, that fullness comes together for you, too" (Col 2: 9-10, the Message).

This is what shouting about! When we come to Christ, all of Him and everything that He represents fully live in us. We have God’s comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God. So, as God’s people we are fully and divinely loaded. Unfortunately, some of us haven’t come to this realization of this; hence, the reason for our struggles and compromise. We have God’s wisdom available to us right now to carefully, effectively, and properly handle the issues of life. We need Him to help us navigate this life as His representatives, ambassadors, and children, We ought to be known as people who demonstrate, display, and manifest His wisdom.

The Bible recorded that Solomon was wiser than everyone around him:

"Thus Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the men of the East and all the wisdom of Egypt. For he was wiser than all men—than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his fame was in all the surrounding nations" (1Kg 4:30-31).

Even Jesus alluded to it that Queen Sheba “traveled from a far corner of the earth to listen to wise Solomon.” Then, He said: “wisdom far greater than Solomon’s is right in front of you” (Lk 12: 42, the Message). Many of us are wowed by, talked more of, and even prayed for the wisdom of Solomon than we are the wisdom of Jesus. Yet, the Bible said as Jesus is in the world so we are. That implies that by the virtue of our spiritual birth and regeneration, we, too must begin to bear and display the image of the heavenly so that we can manifest the wisdom of Christ which is far greater than the wisdom of Solomon. We must be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

This Christ dwells in us. No wonder the apostle Paul prayed for the Christians in Ephesus that Christ would “dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts” by faith (Eph 3: 17, AMPC). What this implies is that they will be filled with the Spirit of wisdom in full measure so that they can manifest the manifold and multidimensional wisdom of God. This should also be our prayer that everything He represents will find expression in and through us.

“When we come to Christ, all of Him and everything that He represents fully live in us.”

Moreover, this Christ we are talking about is God’s wisdom and power. He is God’s wisdom manifested to us.

"...but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God" (1Cor 1: 24).

So, when we are talking about God’s wisdom we are talking about God’s word Himself who became flesh and dwelled with us and in us by the Holy Spirit.

“Jesus was so wise that He always knew what to do, what to say, how to say it. He displayed wisdom that He was at the right place at the right time, doing the right thing with the right people and with a right attitude to the glory of God.”

Jesus is not only our Savior and Lord, but He is also our wisdom. God made Him to be wisdom for us.

"But it is from Him that you have your life in Christ Jesus, Whom God made our Wisdom from God, [revealed to us a knowledge of the divine plan of salvation previously hidden, manifesting itself as] our Righteousness [thus making us upright and putting us in right standing with God], and our Consecration [making us pure and holy], and our Redemption [providing our ransom from eternal penalty for sin]" (1Cor 1: 30, AMPC).

As we meditate on wisdom this month, I want to remind you that you too can live as a wise person just as Christ did. You can make wise choices. You can behave wisely. You can increase in wisdom. You are to represent Jesus to the world so that it can be said of you: “what incredible wisdom has been given to him! Where did he receive such profound insights? And what mighty miracles flow through his hands!” (Mk 6: 2, TPT). Amen! Jesus was so wise that He always knew what to do, what to say, how to say it. He displayed wisdom that He was at the right place at the right time, doing the right thing with the right people and with a right attitude to the glory of God.

Prayer: Thank you God for giving me Jesus. I pray that you will give me a fresh revelation of Jesus who is the wisdom of God. I pray that He will feel at home within me. Help me to express Jesus in everything I do because He is my wisdom. Amen!
